NYC shopping guide: Castor & Pollux

I thought I would introduce you to my favorite places to shop one by one, I’ll start with NYC but try and cover London, Paris and other cities.

Some of the best shops are hidden away in little side streets and shopping in them feels like being in a friends house. They’re full of lovely smells, inspiring designs and the friendliest staff who will chat with you about art, fashion and even offer you ‘Mast Brothers Chocolate‘. What’s going on with Mast Brothers Chocolate by the way? I used to have to resist them in every cafe in NYC, but now even in the fashion shops? I am not sure I can handle it!

These great clothes shops will always inspire you and sometimes even let you design your own pieces. They usually do not make it into the travel guide books, so I thought I’d try and help:

The first place I wanted to talk to you about is the amazing Castor & Pollux.

Kerrilynn Pamer, the owner of this lovely West Village store, has a great eye for amazing pieces you’ll want to keep in your closet forever. You’ll find Rachel Comey, Ter et Bantine, Gary Graham, Acne and even Brooklyn made ‘Saipua’ soaps.

Let me introduce you to…Marianna

I first met Marianna Romanelli on a flight to Bora Bora for a job few years ago.

We got to share one of those amazing cottages over the ocean, not that calming and beautiful in a storm by the way. She was probably part of one of my craziest ever jobs and I’m sure we will always remember and laugh about it, but that’s a whole other post…

She is the sweetest person you could ever meet and if you’re in the bad mood, she’ll help you snap out of it in 30 seconds, maybe even 10! She laughs constantly and is extremely positive, just the type of person you always want to be around. She’s also the most eco friendly person I know and somehow makes you want to emulate her in that.

She is originally from Brazil, in case her beauty doesn’t make it obvious, she now lives in Paris, though to my delight she spends a lot of time in New York & London.

I asked her a few questions about modeling, health and for some tips on her favorite places:

New York City upside down, an installation at the MET by Tomas Saraceno called ‘Cloud City’. Feels like a walk in the sky…

London Baby!

I’ve just landed back in London, yuppie! So weather please be good or else! I already miss NYC of course, so typical…

I’ll be back there soon just in time for fashion week, but I am in LONDON NOW and I’ll be bringing you a little bit more about my London favorites…

What is really on my mind though are NYC’s one and only ‘flying cockroaches’… I hope they’ll keep away from my wardrobe while I am not there. You’re hearing right, flying cockroaches, they are too huge and disgusting to be flies and can’t be real cockroaches because they attack you while flying. I really don’t know what they are, but they’re definitely to watch out for when you’re in NYC! Beware!

I have my family coming tomorrow, so exciting, it’s their first ever trip to London.

Off I go, no time for blogging, lots of cooking, unpacking and preparations to do!

Oh and I have a lot to tell you about my most recent NYC finds, most of all I got to meet so many inspiring people in the last couple of months that I have to introduce you to!

So keep comin’!
