Inspiration No. 39

London’s one and only ‘Ottolenghi’

‘Ottolenghi’ is more of a cafe or a deli than a restaurant, here you can get dishes you’ve never tasted before, prepared with a completely fresh approach. The recipes are inspired by different cuisines from around the world, yet each is completely original and includes new ingredients mixed in unexpected ways. Ottolenghi is UNUSUAL in the best kind of way!

You’ll get to choose your meal from fresh displays right at the counter, which is hard, because you kinda want to eat everything once you see it. There is also a temptation to go straight to the mouth watering desserts, DON’T! They’ll taste all the better after your main course, I usually opt to choose from 2 different salads and a meat dish.

Chia Power

You know that unfortunate muscle cramp you sometimes get while swimming? Or the shooting pain in your knees while running? I hate it! Like it’s not enough that you already dragged your ass out of bed, the last thing you need is your body providing yet another barrier.

I tore a tendon in my knee a few years back and it gives me reoccurring problems, especially while running long distances or on uneven surfaces, like Finsbury Park in London, one leg is always lower than the other, no matter what you do?

I started to do a little bit of ‘research’ and have learnt that marathon runners all around the world are given ‘CHIA SEEDS’ in their race packs to combat these problems.

Shoes…

There can never be enough shoes in my world. I have a trip to California in a few weeks so found myself in ‘desperate’ need of new heels, yet again! I was looking for ‘nude’ colored heels with an ankle strap.

Surprisingly, it wasn’t an easy task, even-though ankle straps are really popular right now. I think ‘Max Mara’ have managed to get the combination just right, so here’s my new pair of ‘California’ heels, thank God L.A. is a driving town!!….

The World of ‘Le Pain’

My world wouldn’t be the same without the ‘Le Pain Quotidien’, so I thought it was about time to mention it on my blog.

The ‘Le Pain’ restaurants are a small constant in my world. I know, I know it’s a chain and I should be trying new places and cuisines and I do, I am absolutely up for that 99 times out of a 100! Sometimes though, it’s nice to know what to expect, it’s great to go somewhere familiar after a long day at work or before work to grab my morning tea or latte. ‘Le Pain’ is my comfort zone in a crazy world, my little oasis!

This Belgian restaurant chain promotes organic eating but also ‘communication’ with their LONG wooden communal tables. The tables had to be made especially as they didn’t exist so long, they’re great when eating solo, as I often do on my travels, it makes me feel less conspicuous!

I discovered ‘LPQ’ a few years back in New York’s Soho, I instantly adored the place and was thrilled when the chain began to expand and I found one in London. All their locations have very similar menus, varying just a little depending on each country’s produce and by season. Each has it’s own special dish’s, but you’ll ALWAYS find their lovely jams and other spreads, ‘Blondie’ and ‘Brunette’ to name two. It’s also a great ‘coffee to go’ place, just look out for their easily recognizable sign on the streets, I call it the ‘mouse cheese sign’, do you see it as well?
