You may remember me mentioning Cafe Gitane in Nolita, somewhere I spend a lot of time between castings and enjoy very much.
Well, I recently rediscovered a second Cafe Gitane in the Jane Hotel on the other side of the island, so let me tell you a bit about this location. It has all the best bits from the original cafe, including an innovative and unusual Moroccan inspired menu. It also has a great, retro interior and crockery borrowed from other coffee places all over NYC! They do however have their own plates and make sure you know it by printed their name on them in huge letters.
The Jane location does have a very special feel, it’s larger and slightly more theatrical than Mott Street and I adore the history of the place, it just breathes on you. The hotel in which it sits is a NYC landmark, built by the same architect as the famous immigration station on Ellis Island. The atmosphere takes you back in time to a hay day when it actually accommodated the Titanic survivors. It has high ceilings with a grandiose dragon chandelier, aquatic walls. A Budha statue in one corner and a sofa within a wall papered, sheltered area in the other. Checked floors, green bar stools next to an old retro cashier and a stuffed crocodile above the bar. It epitomizes a French cafe bistro, with it’s little tables and chairs, hence the name. I know it sounds like a mixture of everything, but it’s just charming, even ghostly in a way.
“It’s that time of year when cherries are coming into town!”
I love this season, I think it’s a lot of girls’ favorite, isn’t it? I think I could live on cherries alone! So what is so special about them?
The problem with the beach is that spending the day working on one makes you want go back so badly that you’re not happy anywhere else, it would be better not to go at all, right? It’s like giving something sweet to a kid and then taking it away from him straight away….
So I am now very busy with… the ‘beach day dreaming’ and trying so hard to find an excuse to go for a vacation… I’m afraid it’s not gonna happen for a while…so back to my day dreaming….
This picture is from LA, when I was actually on the beach for real, playing volleybal, it’s a before-shot, of course, otherwise I would be red like a tomato. After that we also did some amazing hiking in the Topanga Canyon State Park, I have to post about that soon.
I am a bit obsessed with the T-shirt I am wearing here (meaning I wear it a lot, well, ALL THE TIME, well, perhaps way too much, I really need a new T-shirt), it’s my very very favorite (you probably already made that conclusion). I do not remember where it’s from though, but the bikini bottom is by Missoni.
A little while ago I wrote about my favorite runs, so I thought I’d share a bit more about my favorite running locations, their challenges, the tunes I like to listen to, iPhone apps I use and gear I wear. Well, on gear you might want to give me some advice, I haven’t really purchased running clothes in a while and somehow always tend to leave it too long and worn out see-through leggings are never a good look, under any circumstances!
You guys let me know about your favorite places to run as I’d like to get more adventurous and always want to try new routes in each country I visit, perhaps I’ll bump into you and steal some of your motivation.
Happy running and many worn out leggings!
