Miami Guide by Sarah

My girl Sarah, who you’ve heard so much about on the blog already, will guide you through her adopted home town of Miami. She’s been living there for a while now, much to my disfavor as I miss her in New York so much.

I met this ‘bella chicca’ almost 16 years ago and we shared an apartment in Athens. Our story of running into each other randomly in New York 12 years later is almost a fairy-tale (I mentioned it here) and I’ll forever be grateful for it as I wouldn’t have the same positive, happy and uplifting outlook on life as I do when Sarah is around.

24/7

You guys often ask how a typical week looks for me. Well every week is very different, but here’s how this very, very special one looked?

I’m actually gonna start with Sunday, not Monday, you’ll see why.

Sunday: I started my day with a 15k run in Central Park. It was quite tricky I have to say; maybe a tiny hangover after hosting a dinner party on Saturday had something to do with it, or perhaps because it was 34C and 99% humidity? I’ll go with the latter. I got poo’d on by a bird at the 3^rd kilometer, good luck I thought, though it didn’t smell like a good luck!

Monday: Tracy Anderson’s workout at 6am, Mon is usually my day off exercising, but because I’m heading on vacation I had to fit something in, the New York Marathon is sneaking up on me. I made summer borscht and shared the recipe with you guys. I had 6 castings that day, and when I was heading to flight school in Ronkonkoma in the evening I got shit on by a bird again, luckiest week ever right!! I’m taking night lessons at the moment and it’s a totally different experience, it’s amazing but I got home at 2:30am. At this point I’ve been going for 20 hours!

Tuesday: My photo-shoot for Trina Turk starts at 7:30 am so I’m up at 5:30, ouch! The shoot finishes at 7pm and I rush to the cobbler to collect some shoes. He stayed open for me; he’s the best in town. You’ll find him on the right of 14^th Street, between 1^st & 2^nd Avenues. No time to pick anything up for dinner so after a quick 8k run, it’s leftover borscht and banoffee pie for dinner. I’ll share the ‘healthy’ banoffee recipe soon!

Summer Borscht

Soup for summer, why not?

This one is to be served cold. It’s vegan, sugar and lactose free, of course. It’s bursting with minerals and thanks to my favorite apple cider vinegar (more on this amazing ‘superfood’ soon), it’s full of beneficial bacteria, magical workers for your digestive system!

Ingredients: (this will make a big pot of soup, it will serve about 8 people)

4 fresh beets (+3-4 cups of water)
¼ head of cabbage
4-5 carrots
juice of 1 lemon
3 cups of vegetable stock (homemade here)
1 cup of water
½ cup of coconut milk
4 tbsp of coconut creme
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp pepper
3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
optional: 1tbsp of coconut creme to add on top

My Cafe Stories / AnonymouS Coffee, Prague

friendly, super-hero staff (each barista wears his personal favorite comic-book T-Shirt and a mask), coffee that always comes with an interesting and unique twist, homemade lemonades (try the raspberry-basil one) and a cozy light wood furniture with a swing, oh yeap, the real swing, together with the rainbow pillow seats and turquoise walls, make for a coffee place that you won’t want to leave. You’ll even be willing to forgive them the scary Guy Fawkes masks that pop up and scare the life out of you here and there (the baristas like to wear them too!).

Yummy Cherry Jam

I grew up loving cherries! Both of my grandmas had cherry trees in their gardens. I wouldn’t stop eating them, until eventually stomach pain would do the job.

Nothing’s changed and each year I can’t wait for the cherry season to begin. This year, I’m eating them fresh; I enjoy baking cherry pies and I make the healthiest cherry jam:

Yummy Cherry Jam (makes 1 medium size Mason jar, about 450g = 1 pint = 16oz):

2 cups of pitted cherries

3 tbsp honey

juice of 1 fresh lemon

For Italy

I’m going on vacation in a week and I just can’t wait! It’s been such a crazy few months, without even weekends off, so I feel I really need it. I’m going to be on a boat much of the time, and I’m a little worried as to how I’ll manage my Marathon training? Anyway, what am I packing for La Bella Italia?

London Guide by Alex

Alex has been my friend for a very long time, we don’t like to say how long as it shows how old we are.

Our paths crossed so often around the world, it felt like someone up there wanted us to meet and we just weren’t getting it.

We started modeling around the same time (a long, long time ago) and we first met in a Parisian elevator when visiting our agency current agency. We said a polite hello and then Alex mentioned a cockroach she was fighting the night before in her apartment, I immediately found her both funny and a little weird, I still do! When I got home I looked up the word ‘cockroach’ in my huge English-Czech dictionary, that at the time I had to take everywhere, I cleaned my apartment twice that night.

We continued to cross paths at castings in Paris, London & New York, always just a nod and a smile, then one day I flew for a job in Ibiza. It started on the plane, I was traveling so much I think my body decided to give up? Painful ringing in my ears, a high fever and hallucinations just to start. I could barely stand by the time the clients walked into my room to discuss the shoot. However, instead of taking me to hospital, they immediately panicked about the shoot and decided it was my fault- why didn’t I call and let them know I was sick? They finally left and I fell asleep. When I woke, the cockroach girl was sat on my bed, she assured me that it was an easy-going, not to worry, I’d be fine. She brought me soup, water and Aspirin, she was so lovely and kind, a real guardian angel. I woke a little better and was able to get through the shoot, I was then rushed to hospital! When I asked about the girl, I was told she had already returned to Paris and that her name was Alex.

One year later while waiting at a casting studio in New York, a gorgeous blond girl squeezes in next to me and asks, “I don’t know if you remember, we met in Ibiza?” “Oh my God” I replied, “of course, you’re Alex!” Well from then on, the meetings were less accidental and more planned. We’ve never really managed to live in the same city for more than a few months at a time, but we’ve always managed see each other and stay together, in London, New York, France, Warsaw and lots of other corners of the world. She’s awesome, she’s weird, she’s crazy and she’s my family.

Alex has now lived in London for 5 years and she knows the place! She researches hidden treasures, she knows where things are happening, where to get the best coffee, exercise and food. I can’t think of a better person to show you around my favorite city. Here’s the “London City Guide, by the one and only Alex”:
