I’ve shot in this hotel so many times and it’s quite easy to see why. This New York institution has been around since the sixties but only opened as a hotel in 2003. Just walking past it on the busy Chelsea street makes you stop and check it out properly.
As the name suggests, everything is designed in a ‘maritime’ or nautical theme. It has a very sixties feel and the light through the lobby windows always creates a beautiful atmosphere, softening the solid blue color of the chairs and sofas. Even if you’re not planning on staying here, come anyway to check the model of the Titanic, have a meeting by the fire place in the reception or dine in their restaurant, La Bottega. Perhaps say hello to the local ghosts, maybe one of the previous guests – sailors, runaways, Chinese artists and more. At the very least, take a look at the world differently, through their famous round windows!
